4 Upgrades You Can Add to Your New Home Build

4 Upgrades You Can Add to Your New Home Build Sterling Wainwright Loft imageThey may be upgrades, but we prefer to call them “specialty must-haves”. Those beautiful items you can’t live without in your new home, such as high-level hardwood, ceramic tile, and granite materials, or a large soaker tub in your ensuite. But it’s much more than just surfaces and flooring you can alter in your new home, there are other fun and functional features you can add to personalize your home to your exact needs.

We have a few tricks up our sleeves that might entice you. But first, we’d like to introduce you to our very own 4,000 square foot design centre.

1. Design Q

With Design Q , you will find thousands of styles, finishes, and colours to choose from to fully design your home to be uniquely you. You’ll be paired with a personal design consultant throughout your appointment who will guide you through your selections, offering helpful advice as needed to ensure your new home turns out exactly as you expect.

You’ll also be able to choose everything from flooring to cabinetry to fixtures and tile. With so much to select, it may seem overwhelming. It’s best to do your research ahead of your appointment and collect ideas that you like so that your appointment can go smoothly and you’ll end up with a design that fits your style.

Some items in your home will already be standard to your home’s purchase price. However, depending on your style, those finishes may not match what you would like to see in your home. Design Q is your opportunity to shine and pick the look you have been dreaming of.

Lighting pieces can make a bold statement, and the same can be said for fireplaces. While standard lighting or a built-in fireplace are nice, upgraded versions can elevate the overall look of your main living area if you so choose.

As an example, in our Hamilton model show home in Sage Creek, you'll see how these upgrades take the design level up several notches. The upgraded pendant lights over the kitchen island are a beautiful mixture of traditional and contemporary in stunning gold tones.

The fireplace is upgraded to a full entertainment unit with the fireplace built right in, to create a stand-out piece that is also extremely functional. Added mantles, shelves for storage, and surrounding it all with elegant tile or stone are popular choices for this upgrade, but you can pick and choose to suit your style. You can then complete the look with potlight or pucklight insets for an absolutely glowing focal piece.

Imagine a relaxing soak in your free-standing tub by candlelight, perhaps with a glass of wine and some lavender scented bubbles. The only thing missing is soft music. Alas, you can have a built-in sound system wired right into your home during construction. Speakers will be installed in your ceiling in any room or open space you choose.

Control your music room by room, or choose to play the same music throughout the home if you happen to be doing chores. Your music will follow you no matter where you go in your home. With a system such as this, you can play any radio station you like or a selection of music from your portable device. It depends on the system you purchase, of course, but there are plenty of options to bring music into your home.

That’s not to say you can’t also build surround sound into your media room. Instead of purchasing a standalone system that leaves wires throughout your room to trip on, have a full sound system built into your media room that hooks directly into your electronic equipment. Your home will host the best Grey Cup parties or perfect for Jets games!

4. Function and Space

Depending on the model you purchase, you can also make some changes to the plan to personalize your home for your specific needs.  Convert a bonus room into an extra bedroom, complete with closet. Or if you prefer to have the open area for a variety of activities, a loft space might be the perfect solution for you.

Your ensuite can be the best space in your home—your own personal sanctuary if you will. Adding a second sink or selecting the optional deluxe ensuite layout (as per plan) are two very popular upgrades many of our home owners enjoy. The possibilities are enticing, and the dream is yours to turn into reality.

These are just a handful of ideas on what you can upgrade in your home to make it truly yours. Your new home should be a reflection of your personality, and it should fit your lifestyle like only a personalized home can.
